Disclosure: King’s Dominion provided complimentary admission tickets for my family.

Fall is my favorite time of year, particularly October when all the colors, harvests and activities surrounding autumn and Halloween are at their peak. If you like a fun-filled day outdoors, full of rides, pumpkin painting, tasty treats and a bit of spooky amusement then you should check out Planet Spooky at Kings Dominion!

What: Planet Spooky takes over Planet Snoopy

When: Sept. 28-Oct. 27, 2013

Where: Kings Dominion in Doswell, Va.

Why:  Why not!  It is something that the whole family can enjoy.  While the rides (all 18 of them) are still the same there is a bit of a Halloween twist that takes over the area.  Kids can paint pumpkins, run through a haystack maze, enjoy The Great Pumpkin Coaster or ride a pedal tractor.  There is a small but cute petting zoo containing sweet tiny pigs, bantam roosters, an alpaca and a rabbits.  A foam-filled Pigpen pit provides some sensory entertainment and kids can pick up a trick or treat bag to take through Planet Spooky and collect small toys. Perfect for entertaining them on the drive home.

The best part of the trip was that we were outside spending time together as a family all day long.  We may not have gotten to do the whole park but it just leaves us open to go back and do it again!  Another fun tip is to head over to Dinosaurs Alive, which is right off The infamous Grizzly roller coaster.  It is a scenic walk through the forest where over 35 animatronic dinosaurs come alive right before your eyes.  Incredibly life-like and loud you can now trick or treat through this area too. There is even a boneyard and sand pit to dig for fossils.  It was one of the highlights of our time at Kings Dominion.

If you want to dip your toe into the amusement park world with your little ones then Planet Snoopy aka Planet Spooky is just the place to begin a life-long love of rides, games and so much more.
