Avon You Make It Beautiful Tour

A few weeks ago, on a beautiful fall day, I walked a few extra blocks on my lunch break to visit the Avon You Make it Beautiful Tour tent which was set up right on Dupont Circle. Avon says that around the world 9 out of 10 women know about Avon. I’m one of those nine, and I bet you are, too.

I was already a fan of Avon. In fact, I’m more than a little obsessed with their Ultra Glazewear Lip Gloss: at one point I ordered six of them to ensure I had one at work, at home and in all the bags I switched between on a regular basis. I could not be without my Ultra Glazewear. (Speaking of which, I need a re-order!) As I walked to the tent I wondered what the You Make it Beautiful tour was all about.

After I met super-star Avon Senior Executive Unit Leader Rosa Delao-Gomez and her husband David–based in Arlington!–and talked with them and division sales manager of US sales, Stephen Walker, I realized they were working with an all-encompassing definition of beautiful. On the face of it (haha!) Avon sells products to make you look and feel great. That lip gloss that I love is the finishing touch to a full night-on-the-town face of make up but it’s also (quite often!) the only piece of make up I put on. And either way, it makes me feel great.

But the Avon Foundation sets another ideal for beauty by working to improve the lives of women. Their Avon Breast Cancer Crusade and Speak Out Against Domestic Violence program are making a real difference for real women across the globe. And during the month of October, Breast Cancer Awareness month, when there are so many bogus awareness campaigns and so much pink washing that aren’t doing a single thing to fight breast cancer, Avon sure is a breath of beautiful, fresh air.
