Last week I was in shorts and tank tops while I trekked around Magic Kingdom.  It was still warm here in the DMV too.  This week I’m pulling my leather motorcycle jacket out of the closet and adding boots and turtlenecks to my daily dressing.  Fall is officially here! I’ve listed four easy trends that I am so excited about incorporating into my daily life.

1.  Motorcycle Boots– I have the moto jacket from last fall.  This year I am all about the motorcycle boot.  Look in any fashion magazine or shoe website and you will find a nice black, possibly buckled pair that is perfect for stomping through October leaves and November rains.  I have size 10 feet myself, and it might be hard to pull off this look, but pairing the boots with leggings, skirts and tights (especially kilts) makes me feel daring and take charge in a whole new way.  Big feet be damned!  I am buying a pair of the super comfortable, very practical yet completely on trend motorcycle boots.  I love the Diba Everhart pair DSW has right now.

2.  Dark Lips–  I know my husband doesn’t love it when I apply red lipstick to my lips but I sure do!  He will have to survive the next few   months with a crimson-mouthed wife because this season we are dropping the neon’s from the summer and it is all about red lips and dark hues like blackberry and crimson. Think velvety and deep when you are selecting a shade.  The Washington Post made an excellent point in this week’s magazine, “avoid a too-pale visage” and add a generous amount of blush and mascara to tie it all together.

3.  Textures–  Do not be afraid to delve into metal studs, jet beading, brocades and needlepoint  when it comes to dresses, coats, accessories and actually anything this year.  Textures are big and can be seen on handbags, shoes, sweaters and even shirts.  From pony-hair pumps and purses to snakeskin clutches, heels and pearl-studded jackets you can really play with ornamentation in your every day wear and especially for special occasions.  Furry trimmings and scaled sequins are also being used on everything from sweaters to boots.  It is a very fun time to be creative and have a little fun with fashion.

4. New Smokey Eyes– Bobbi Brown has revealed a new make-up book this month and with it a fabulous taupe shadow.  It works perfectly with the new smokey eye styled in brown tones or grey.  You can go either way and work with shades of both colors that flatter your skin tone best. It is a nice break from the standard black smokey eye that we have seen for many seasons.  If you want to play it up even more add a brilliant shade of purple to the lids and really stand out at your next event.

What I love about all these trends is that they are easy to incorporate into your daily life.  You can be working from home, the office, running errands or carpool and still find a way to rock those buckled boots, dark lips or textures into your world.  Even the smoky eye has a place and it doesn’t have to be precise.  Fall is always about daring, vibrant colors and it is a great time to step out of your comfort zone.
