One of my favorite Disney movies of all times is “The Lion King” but I wasn’t sure if Michael had ever seen it in it’s entitrety.  My parent’s had taken him to see the show on Broadway last year, and I knew he had seen bits and pieces of the movie here and there.

Last week, my family was invited to a screening of the re-release in 3D.  I am not a lover of 3D movies.  The tend to give me a headache and I find them kind of gimicky.  But “Lion King” in 3D was beautiful.  “Lion King” is a beautiful movie anyway, and putting it in 3D just magnifed the gorgeous African scenery and the amazing Disney animation.

We all know the story of “The Lion King” but that didn’t stop me from hoping that maybe they changed it, and Mufasta didn’t die.  And I saw more than one person reach for tissues when Simba fled after Scar told him he killed his father.  Kids sang along with “I Just Can’t Wait To Be King” and “Hakuna Matta” and you knew, once again, that a new generation of Simba and Nala lovers were being born in the theater.

I understand that this re-release is to co-inside with the DVD being taken out “from the Disney vault” and it is one brillant marketing scheme.  Because after seeing “The Lion King” on the big screen, I want to buy the movie also.
