Seasonal Recipes from Local Food Bloggers: Pumpkin Fest

Posted October 27th, 2011 by Andrea Meyers in Food, Recipes

At this time of year it’s hard not to notice the pumpkins everywhere, and around our house there is a lot of cooking with pumpkin going on. It’s a great vegetable because it’s so versatile. Whether you want to use it in savory or sweet dish, the flavor and texture of pumpkin compliments many other ingredients. Here are three recipes from local food bloggers showing off pumpkin’s versatility.

Pumpkin Trifle, from Dianne's Dishes

Can you say beautiful? This pumpkin trifle layered with pumpkin pound cake and cinnamon brown sugar maple whipped cream will make a gorgeous presentation for an autumn party. (Recipe and photo from Dianne’s Dishes.)

The Wicked Noodle - Pumpkin Soup

A hot bowl of pumpkin soup with a swirl of crème fraiche is a good belly-warming meal. (Recipe and photo from The Wicked Noodle.)

Pati's Mexican Table - Pumpkin and Ancho Chile Mole

Pureed pumpkin forms the base of this spicy mole with ancho chiles. Serve it with grilled chicken, fish, or other meat and sprinkle with toasted pumpkin seeds (pepitos). (Recipe and photo from Pati’s Mexican Table.)

What do you like to make with pumpkin? Do you prefer canned pumpkin or do you make your own puree?

Andrea Meyers enjoys making many autumn dishes with pumpkin, and she’s been known to photograph a pumpkin or two.
